What is the Qur'an?
The Qur'an was revealed by Allah through the angel of revelation Gabriel to the last of the prophets, Hazrat Muhammad. The Quran is free from all kinds of distortions. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) cannot add a single word to it, nor can any creature of the world add to it in any way. Convey the message to all humanity. The Qur'an is the first source for every believer. In the Qur'an, Allah Almighty has arranged the individual and collective guidance of man.
The uniqueness of the Qur'an and one of its distinctions is that all its words and all its commands are from Allah Almighty and no human being has any involvement in it and no human being has any deficiency in it. What is the literal meaning of the word Qur'an? What do Muslims use it for? But sometimes it means both the word and the meaning.
This command has been clearly stated in the Qur'an that it cannot be touched without ablution. According to them, acting is related to meanings, not words, because the command is related to the meaning, not the word, the meanings come after the words. Some rules are related to both the words and the meanings, such as belief Keeping in mind that the Qur'an is the word of God, it includes both words and meanings, will not suffice for one.
The literal and figurative meanings of the Qur'an
Before defining the terminological definition of the Qur'an, it is important that we define its literal definition and explain its literal derivation. Is designed that way? In response, two views emerge:
The first statement is that the word Qur'an is without any derivation and it is applied to the word of Allah as the names of people are given by words. It belongs to other scholars.
The second view is that the word Qur'an is a derivative and its origin and word. Some people think that its original meaning is to combine one thing with another, that is, to add something. This statement has been attributed to Abi Al-Hashn al-Ash'ari. There is a saying of a group. The third saying is that it has the original recitation which means plural. And there is the opinion of a group of scholars.
Orientalists have made a strange point that it comes from the Syriac word qarnaya, which means to read or teach the Bible. The Orientalists have ignored the geographical differences between Arabic and Syriac at this time. Proximity in speaking does not give preference to one over the other. Arabic and Syriac are languages of one tribe but this fact is their own. It is a well-known fact that the language is the same as the language spoken by the people of the language. It was the Canaanites who spread to North Africa before the advent of the Holy Prophet. They are called Cartagenians.
Our discussion here is limited to the literal meaning of the Qur'an by which we want to express its terminological meaning. Nor do we get into the debate over which of these meanings the listener prefers. We move on to the terminological meaning of the Qur'an. In light of what has been mentioned, the word Qur'an applies to three things:
First thing: The Qur'an means only its words, not its meaning, as the Qur'an shows only by the command to touch the pure people.
Second: It means only the meaning, not the words. The Qur'an is to be read and not acted upon.
Third: It refers to both words and meanings as the Qur'an is the word of Allah.
In the light of all this, a comprehensive definition of the Qur'an can be given.
